Published on The Pony Express and featured as focus in print 2017/02/9 About: This piece has been included in my portfolio because this is the most important article I have written- and was the most impactful to the community. I traveled to interview those close to Bill Howlett, and fought hard for photos of courtesy. This was featured as a centerspread in our print edition, and presented to his widow as a gift- interviewing his widow was the hardest piece to this, as I had to learn to be sensitive and comforting. Overall, this is the story I am most proud of, and happy it brought closure to his legacy in the community.
Written 2016/12/16 About: This piece has been included in my portfolio because this was a hard story to not editorialize. For this, we were allowed to choose a subject for a feature story, and in knowing that my subject's political views strongly contrasted mine, I was hoping to challenge myself- and boy, did I ever. However, I feel I portrayed his mission as a young politician very well, and hope he does well in the future. This, however has not been published.
Published on The Pony Express 2017/02/14 About: This piece has been included in my portfolio because this was a new approach to a story. The entire story had been written in class, off of a 30-minute presentation. A few months later, the presenter had read mine, and told me she could not believe a high schooler had written it. This was the first time I was recognized by an outside source. therefore I felt it needed to be included.
Written 2016/11/3 About: This piece has been included in my portfolio because it was my first in-depth people/feature story about a local student. He had an inspiring message and a clear drive to do something unique, so I believed it needed to be written on. This, however has not been published.
