I am a student-journalist and senior at Stillwater Area High School, Minn. A current Editor-in-Chief for The Pony Express, my school’s newspaper, I resume responsibility in overseeing our online division. When I first came onto staff over a year ago, I began primarily as a photographer, but online editing, revising and publishing soon became a part of my passion to contribute more to our paper’s success. In April of 2016, I had the opportunity to attend the National Student Press Association’s convention in Los Angeles, Calif., where my inner passion to grow as an Editor-in-Chief was sparked, prompting me to take over our paper as one of five leaders, overseeing a staff of over a hundred students. Outside of production work, I take pride in my own entrepreneurial experiences as a photojournalist and photographer, documenting for groups such as NSPA’s summer workshop at University of Minnesota, taking local student’s senior photos, creating Christmas cards, and more. My passion for communications and graphic design also extends into painting, where I have had the opportunity to receive Silver Key and Honorable Mentions from the National Scholastics Art and Writing Competition, be a part of The Les Farrington’s Best 100, and take first place in Stillwater’s local competition, The Da Vinci Fest, for numerous painting and photography pieces. Furthermore, in 2015 and 2016, I’ve held two gold medallions with the Minnesota State High School Press Association for my artwork contributions to Stillwater’s The Stylus, an extension to our yearbook, The Kabekonian. This past fall 2016, in a partnership with one of my former editors, I was able to take home another gold medallion for The Pony Express, in regards to a broadcast news story. Within this site, you can view some of my strongest work throughout my two years as an editor for the paper, and as an individual journalist.
